Some of my fondest childhood memories of Christmastime are of the excitement surrounding our family's yearly Advent calendar. Usually, these calendars hung upon the wall - colorfully depicting Santa's North Pole workshop or a Nativity Scene with delicious chocolates or sweet images of nostalgia beneath the numbered paper we would so carefully lift. It was the perfect countdown to Christmas Day, delighting my three siblings and I with daily glee.
Advent Calendars have taken a turn in recent years to the DIY, sparking a wave of creativity, and infusing this simple tradition with a personal touch. Advent Calendars today have branched beyond the chocolate filled whimsy of my memory into a new realm of perhaps even greater meaning. Here are some of my favorite notions for the DIY'er - Advent Calendars sure to encourage us all to create one of our own this year:
1. Packages Tied up With String:
2. Simple Tidings.
From French by Design.
3. Make this once, then use year after year:
4. Salvaged Wood + Nails = Great Way to Recycle. :)
5. My Favorite DIY Advent Calendar Idea of ALL!
Via Kates Creative Space. (this is our absolute favorite - we'll be doing this one for sure!)
6. Create this one in the color scheme of your choice:
Via Stylizimo.
7. How about a Christmas/Holiday Book Advent Calendar?
Via Delia Creates.

Hopefully, these simple DIY ideas have sparked your creativity. There's still plenty of time to create one for you and yours. If you do, please let these enormously creative bloggers know that they inspired you, and please send us a link at BHD to your handcrafted Advent Calendars. :)
Ho! Ho! Ho! - It is beginning to look like Christmas, isn't it?
COMING SOON: Stay tuned for an XMAS activity list project as well as a Love List project inspired by Sherry of Simply Celebrate. XO
